The Iconic Puzzle Game Didn't Succeed at The Game Awards — Another Award Type Might Solve This

As any prominent honors show nears, there’s always a demand to include additional classifications to honor underappreciated efforts and delight the passions of enthusiasts who have specialized interests.

A fellow writer has already made advocating for terror-themed awards. It would be amazing. Equally deserving are board games, which is someone's personal cause. Yet I need to apologize in advance for pushing forward because like all dedicated enthusiasts, there's a strong justification for why my demand remains most pressing and important of all. Here's the proposal: We need a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Organizing artistic expressions isn't exact; opinions vary greatly, and inevitably generate discussions and end in fuzzy definitions. This explains why film award organizations steer clear of genre categories. However, it represents a necessary evil in the world of video games, showing incredible range it's challenging to consider them one unified medium.

For the full spectrum of gaming accomplishments to receive acknowledgment, while allowing diverse titles to have a chance for representation, genre categories are essential.

Present Award Structure

The major gaming awards currently feature award types recognizing Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Between them, these six categories successfully include numerous genres, and you can find room for most games within them.

Not so for brain-teasing titles. No appropriate category exists to accommodate them. Consider three of outstanding current releases, each quite distinct: structural challenges of one title, intense tile-matching from another release, engaging interpersonal challenges in another game. Which classification works between these six categories? Nowhere, that’s where.

Acknowledgment Issues

Many instances occur of brilliant puzzle games released every year that have no home during gaming ceremonies, except when they manage to fit classification types such as Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, or the intensely contested Indie races.

  • An iconic brain-teaser received no recognition in any category during that awards season
  • A different innovative game missed out that year
  • Popular arranging title got ignored in 2021
  • Limited numbers of logic titles barely qualified for small studio or handheld classifications

Significance of Puzzle Games

Commonly they're modest productions, yet the craft behind logic titles carries substantial weight. Famous handheld logic titles stand as most popular titles worldwide maintaining this status for many years.

The iconic tile-matching title competes with famous sandbox experiences competing to become most purchased experience; it additionally competes for top gaming experience. Logic titles represent cornerstones to the art of video games, and engaging with almost every other genre.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Logic titles wouldn't face this problem. You could fill multiple candidates interesting, varied, worthy titles annually without trouble — perhaps, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave numerous deserving experiences.

And to reiterate, these represent titles without proper classification at major gaming awards. Brain-teaser creators operate at the challenging frontier interactive creation, producing among essential manifestations of gaming itself. Comparable to cinema stunt performers, they warrant appreciation. Let’s not keep them waiting decades.
